St Mary's Hall is the prep school to Stonyhurst. It's a 3 to 13 school. We've combined the two schools into one academic structure. What we haven't done is take away that very special atmosphere that you get in prep school. This is a fantastic school if you want your child to be happy, if you want them to do as much as they can do in every area. Hodder House pre-prep at Stonyhurst, St Mary's Hall. Within Hodder House we have a skills-based curriculum and we teach within creative themes. We do learn through activities, we learn through fun but it isn't just leaving children to play. What we do is we have directed activities, guided activities and pre-flow activities all going on at the same time. And once they have been through Hodder House they will move up to the prep school at St Mary's Hall. Academic rigor and stretch have always been been innate qualities within the curriculum here at Stonyhurst but at the same time we believe that children should also be allowed to be children and to have a childhood in the 21st century. Lower down in the school it's fun but it's educational, yet quite interactive. Yes, it's very interactive. When you get to the top to the school it is interactive, its fun but you normally see people with heads down and working hard. That's something I think we do very well at Stonyhurst, St Mary's Hall. We allow children to move their own pace taking into account their individual interests and their individual skills. I love Mrs Taylor 'cause she is so nice and she gives us challenges, not too easy or too hard and she helps us if we get stuck. A Jesuit teacher walks with the child we don't dictate to the child. Now, there is academic rigor and the staff here really really know their subjects but you have to you allow the child to experience the learning themselves and allow them to be an active participant in that learning process. I like English and science because you get to do experiments. You've got enthusiastic teaching from expert people but also outside the classroom you have a pastoral care which is second to none You've got to maintain the academic rigor within a scenario of a happy place where they're well cared for and I think we do it well. Every child in the school does drama as a lesson. I think drama's absolutely crucial in lots and lots of ways. It's one of the lessons where children can express themselves where they can have fun but they also teach lots of skills in terms of mime awareness of space and working together as a team. We've done a Celts and Romans play and so we put the history and drama together and then it created a play of history and drama. I think this school like taught me how to become more confident and not just hide. I like sport best Like, I do like lessons but when it comes to sport I'm really excited. We have an astroturf which is where we mostly play hockey and sometimes we do tournaments there and stuff and then we've got a sports hall. In the winter we have rugby and in summer they take down the rugby posts and make it like into cricket squares. You're going to have so many opportunities here. Be open-minded Be prepared to try things you never thought about trying before. There's always going to be somebody to support you in that and that's both children and staff members. Everyone's so friendly and like, no one wants to ignore you, they're all like, "Yeah, tell me about it..." The school motto is "Quant Je Puis", as much as I can or to the best of my ability If you are doing your best you're going to be very very happy here. I think the best way to describe coming to this school is a privilege It really is a privilege. It really is special.
